Maria de Jesus Quijada, a councilwoman in the city of Tecate, Baja California, was shot and wounded Tuesday afternoon.

Her husband died from wounds received in the attack. Her 15-year-old daughter was also caught in the attack. de Jesus Quijado and the girl were taken to a United States hospital after the shooting. According to Mexican news sources, the three were on their way to a graduation ceremony when shots rang out. So far Baja California authorities have located a burned vehicle believed used by the attackers.
