Cal Fire has released updated information on the Thorn Fire.

The brush fire was reported late Wednesday afternoon in the Live Oak Springs area of San Diego County. The aggressive fire quickly spread to nearly 1,000 acres and caused the evacuation of residents in the fire zone and caused the closure of Interstate 8 both east and west bound. Helicopter crews worked through Wednesday night and into Thursday. Over 700 personnel were on the fire lines Thursday along with 60 engines, 9 dozers and 13 water tenders. Cal Fire reported significant progress constructing and reinforcing containment lines. Extreme heat added to firefighters problems.

As of Thursday morning Interstate 8 was reopened with one lane in each direction from Crestwood to Ribbonwood. Golden Acorn Casino was being used as a staging area and also accepted evacuees. As of late Thursday over 1,230 acres have burned and one structure destroyed.
