A Monday evening traffic accident claimed a life.

The accident was reported at about 8:30 p.m. on northbound State Route 86 and Norm Niver Road near Salton City. Two vehicles were involved. According to the California Highway Patrol, two helicopters were dispatched to the scene to LifeFlight the injured. One individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic was backed up for several miles as emergency crews were on scene. The roadway was cleared at about midnight. The accident remains under investigation.
