The Imperial Irrigation District board has approved a major overhaul of the El Centro Generating Station.
This week, the board approved additional work associated with a major overhaul of the gas turbine generator at the El Centro location. According to the IID, the work is part of a scheduled inspection of Unit number 2 + 2 at the El Centro Generating Station. A unit in service since 1993. The inspection revealed several components that require repair or replacement before the unit returns to service. The approved amendment increases the cost of the overhaul project by approximately $7.9 million. According to IID General manager Jame Asbury, " Reliability starts with taking care of the assets that keep our system running. The El Centro Generating Station is the heart of the districts generation fleet, producing more that 330 megawatts of electricity and supporting system stability during periods of high demand for electricity.
