The Imperial County Health Department has reported an increased presence of an invasive species of mosquitoes.

The  Aedes Aegypti  mosquitos have been found in Calexico, Brawley and Heber. The Aedis Aegypta is an invasive mosquito species capable of transmitting viruses that cause diseases such as dengue, Zika, and others. According to the Health Department, these mosquitos are known as all-day biters and also are considered container breeders, meaning they prefer to lay their eggs along the inside walls of containers that hold water. It's recommended that you eliminate all sources of standing water. When outdoors wear loose fitting, light colored clothes, long sleeved shirts. Apply insect repellant that contains DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
