The Imperial Irrigation District has proclaimed a local emergency following Tropical Storm Rachel.

The storm moved through the Imperial and Coachella Valleys on October 11, 2026, bringing heavy rain, flooding and winds that damaged IID infrastructure. Among the damage was a breach of the Westside Main Canal that was caused by desert runoff causing significant damage to the canal banks requiring extensive repairs. The emergency proclamation allows the IID to continue expedited emergency protective measures, restoration and repair work while pursuing assistance through the California Disaster Assistance Act and other state and federal funds.
