A man was arrested shortly after a Brawley Credit Union was robbed.

And, apparently it's not the first time he's robbed a bank and been arrested. Shortly after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Brawley Police responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the Corazo Credit Union. A suspect fled the scene in a grey Nissan Sentra with Michigan license plates. El Centro Police saw the suspect car traveling westbound on Interstate 8. The California Highway Patrol was notified to assist. They located the suspect and the car at the Buckman Springs Rest Area. Brawley Police Investigators and the FBI responded to the rest area and were able to arrest 41-year-old Asim Shakir Daniels of San Diego. If the name sounds familiar it's because Danials and his brother Akil Daniels were involved in a string of bank robberies in San Diego County in 2010 and 2011. In 2022, shortly after his release from prison, while living in a Brawley halfway house, Daniels robbed the Sun Community Federal Credit Union branch in Holtville and a bank in La Mesa that he had robbed in the earlier crime spree. Daniels was taken to the Brawley Police Department and then turned over to the FBI. He was booked at the Federal Detention Facility in El Centro.
