According to the California Highway patrol (CHP) thieves stole fewer cars statewide in 2025.

The CHP sys that last year, thieves stole more than 133,000 vehicles statewide, that is a 25 percent reduction from the previous year. The decline is attributed to a coordinated enforcement efforts through state and local agencies. Crime Suppression Teams were in operation in August 2025, deployed to high-crime areas across the state. The CHP says that while vehicle thefts continue to decline, motorists should take steps to reduce the risk of theft. Park in well-lit areas. Remove valuables from vehicles. Lock your vehicle every time you leave it. Use an alarm system of anti-theft device.
