A Tuesday afternoon accident resulted in an overturned trailer and a hazardous materials spill.

The accident occurred at 3:00 p.m. on westbound Interstate 8 by the Westside Main Canal. A big rig had a blowout and the driver then backed into the trailer causing the trailer to overturn and spill some hazardous material, an estimated 10 gallons of battery acid. Because of the extreme weight of the trailer, 3 to4 wreckers were dispatched to upright the trailer. It was estimated to take until late Tuesday night for the hazardous materials crew and multiple wreckers to clear the area. There were o injuries.
