Residents of the Lark Spa Mobile Home and RV Park in Niland are getting some help.

On July 9, 2026, the Imperial County Planning and Development Services Department inspected the property and issued a notice to the park to discontinue unpermitted work on the electrical system and deenergize the affected electrical line. The county did not direct the operator to disconnect the electrical service to the entire park. On July 17, 2026, the county was informed that residents had been experiencing an extended loss of electricity. According to the county, they immediately began coordinate a response from several county departments. According to the Department of Social Services, 27 of the parks 77 spaces had been affected. Most residents apparently temporarily relocated with relatives or to hotels. Nine residents remained at the park and were staying in the air-conditioned community room. The county delivered 20 cots to the residents, assisted with CalFresh , MediCal and other programs, activated prepared meal assistance and worked with the displaced residents with other programs. According to the Imperial Irrigation District, the disruption involved the customer owned infrastructure system and was not an IID outage. The property owner or operator was responsible for hiring a qualified contractor, obtaining required permits and completing the electrical repairs necessary to bring the property into compliance.
