El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) has been awarded an $11 million California Distressed Hospital grant.

Early in May, California AB 108 was signed into law. The bill outlined criteria and the process for struggling hospitals to apply for economic assistance grants. Eleven hospitals applied for a part of the $25 million in available grant money. The bill is aimed at supporting facilities confronting financial difficulties. According to Imperial Valley Healthcare District Board of Directors President Katie Burnworth, " Our lord and entire staff celebrate today. The grant arrives at a crucial time for sustaining healthcare services in the entire Imperial Valley. These funds will help stabilize key operations and and essential services".

Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe received $3 million from the same grant program.
