Over 100 rounds of military shells were found in Calexico Saturday.
Calexico Fire Department was notified that possible live shells were found at 438 Grant Street, Plaza Garcia. Initially, 7 rounds were found by a renter moving vehicles. Calexico Fire evacuated the immediate area and activated the Imperial County Fire Department Bomb Squad. The ammunition was x-rayed and found to be stable enough for disposal. The fire department left the area but returned when 100 additional rounds were found in a neighboring lot. The additional ammunition was safely removed and prepared for proper disposal. It was not known where the artillery shells came from or how long they had been in the lots.
