The identity of the pilot of a U.S. Marine Corp helicopter that crashed Thursday night has been released.
The AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter was participating in training in the Glamis area of Imperial County when it went down about 7:00 p.m. The pilot, Major Tyler R. Braconi, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The second pilot, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Desert Regional medical Center in Palm Desert for treatment of injuries. Cause of the accident remains under investigation by the marines.
