The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) will close the California Rehabilitation Center in Riverside County.

The full deactivation of the facility is expected to be completed by Fall of 2026. The closing is expected to save the state approximately $150 million per year. The closure, as well as last year's closing of the Chuckwalla State Prison in Blythe, are the result of a steadily declining prison population. CDCR shows approximately 91,000 incarcerated individuals, down 80,000 from previous years. The Center in Norco employees about 1,200 people and houses over 2,700 individuals. California has also eliminated out-of-state contract prisons.
