(Copper theft Saturday)....County Sheriff's received the call at 7:52 in the morning.

A man was seen trespassing at the Mesquite Lake Water and Power Facility on Highway 111, near Imperial. Deputies arrived at the scene, where an eyewitness described the suspect as a Hispanic male. They said he was taking copper wire and putting it in a vehicle, a brown Toyota Prius. Deputies canvassed the area and located the suspect vehicle in the area of Robinson Road and Old Highway 111. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and approached the driver of the vehicle. He was identified as 39-year-old Orly Romero from Brawley. Copper wire and burglary tools were found in the vehicle. Romero was placed under arrest after the eyewitness identified him as the suspect he saw. He was booked into County Jail, charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. Romero is being held without bail. The Sheriff's Office is encouraging all residents to report any suspicious activity, with as mush detail as possible.
