(Juneteenth is a National Holiday).. It may be a local holiday as well.

The County Board of Supervisors are expected to declare Juneteenth a local holiday at today's Board meeting. The day is to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1865, the slaves in Galveston Texas were notified of their freedom through the Emancipation Act. They are said to the last group to be notified two years after the Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Lincoln in 1863. Juneteenth is June 19th. That is a Thursday. Locally, Juneteenth will be celebrated this Saturday June 14th. The Imperial Valley Social Justice Committee is hosting the celebration. It will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Pavilion in El Centro. The Celebration of Freedom will be held from 12 noon to 5 pm. There will be food, music, entertainment, games, face painting, spoken word, vendors, guest speakers and more.
