U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reminds travelers that raw eggs from Mexico are not permitted to enter the United States.
The reminder follows a significant increase in the number of seizures of prohibited agricultural products from travelers from Mexico. A devastating outbreak of avian influenza has affected millions of birds in the United States, contributing to rising egg and poultry prices. CBP has seen a 158 percent increase in egg interceptions since fiscal year 2024. Travelers are reminded that they are required to declare all agricultural products to CBP officers and agriculture specialists. Failure to declare could result in fines up to $10,000. Raw eggs, raw chicken, or live birds are prohibited from entry into the U.S.
