Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District ( PMHD ) has responded to a recent action.

The district released a statement after the Imperial County Local Area Formation Commission ( LAFCO ) ruled that the dissolution of PMHD should continue. On a 4 - 1 vote, LAFCO voted in favor of the immediate dissolution of PMHD as part of the plan to create one county-wide health care district as stipulated in AB 918. The dissolution is currently being challenged in local courts. The Superior Court Judge presiding over the PMHD challenge ordered that any dissolution be stayed until the court issues a ruling on the matter. 

According to the Pioneers statement, LAFCO's decision undermines the healthcare needs of our residents and their lawful right to vote on the issue. According to Pioneers, the decision also puts the healthcare in the Valley at risk if PMHD's assets and profits are not enough to keeps El Centro Regional Medical Center afloat.
