A pedestrian was fatally injured in an early Saturday morning accident.

Calexico Police were dispatched to a traffic accident o northbound State Route 111, north of Cole Road at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday. According to the driver involved, as he was traveling northbound at about 55 mph he noticed a shadow figure and then heard a thumping noise. The drive stopped and returned to the scene where he discovered a pedestrian he had struck. Calexico Police and Fire Departments responded to the location and the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

Calexico Police say the man carried no identification. Officers believe the victim is a local transient who had prior contact with law enforcement. The driver cooperated fully with investigating officers. It was determined that alcohol was not a factor for the driver. The investigation of the collision is ongoing.
