Nearly 5 pounds of black tar heroin was seized at the Highway 86 Checkpoint.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when a car was referred to secondary inspection at the checkpoint. A Border Patrol K-9 Team alerted to the car and a subsequent search led to the discovery of 4.8 pounds of black tar heroin hidden in a speaker box. The driver , a 38-year old man who is a Legal Permanent Resident , and a passenger , a 31-year old woman , a U.S. citizen , were arrested and turned over to the DEA. The heroin has a value estimated at nearly $59,000.
