(Friday is Juneteenth)….It is celebrated every June 19th.

It has been recognized almost every year in Imperial County. Juneteenth is also called Emancipation Day and Freedom Day. Former slaves celebrated when Union soldiers finally arrived in Galveston to bring the news that slavery had been abolished.
