El Centro Police were involved in a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle Monday afternoon.
ECPD Dispatch Center was notified of a possible stolen 1999 Honda Civic was northbound on Imperial Avenue. The notification was made by the regional Automated License Plate Reader ( ALPR ) program that sends automatic alerts to local police agencies. The car was spotted on Imperial Avenue near Scott Street and El Centro Police attempted a felony stop on the car. After appearing like they would stop the stolen car sped away with officers in pursuit. The pursuit ran on several El Centro surface streets with the driver of the stolen Honda apparently intentionally ramming two vehicles. The driver went south on Imperial Avenue . on to La Brucherie and continued south out of the city. The car was followed to Highway 98 at extreme speeds. Due to the reckless nature of the driver , the pursuit was terminated and other agencies were notified to be on the lookout for the car. The stolen Honda continued into Calexico where Calexico Police were able to recover the vehicle. The driver , described as Hispanic male adult and the passenger , a Hispanic male juvenile were able to flee and escape capture.
