(There was a breach along the Westside Main Canal)....It happened Sunday after storm water surged and overwhelmed the canal.

Despite precautions, the storm water continued to surge into the canal, causing a breach northeast of the Centinela State Prison. By Sunday afternoon the breach was 80 feet wide and 12 feet deep. Imperial Irrigation District water department crews began working with heavy equipment. By Sunday night the breach was closed. Some small repairs will continue as the district works to restore normal canal operations.
