(Department of Interior released its Record of Decision)...It was released Friday.
It is the Colorado River Operations Record of Decision. It is a temporary order to conserve water on the Colorado River, until a permenant decision is negotiated. Not everybody is happy with the decision. The State of Nevada has filed a lawsuit iin federal court contesting the Decision. The suit was filed by the State of Nevada in conjunction with the Colorado River Commission of Nevada and Southern Nevada Water Authority. Nevada says the Decision calls for a 70 percent cut in Nevada's allocation, which would be a major and devastating loss to the state, while the upper basin states of Colorado, Uttah, New Mexico and Wyoming are not required to contribute a drop. The litigation asks the court to set aside the Record of Decision and prevent its implimentation until its numerous legal and technical shortcomings are addressed and resolved. No court date has been set.
