El Centro Police engaged in a short vehicle pursuit Monday morning.

Officers responded to the area of 3rd and Commercial after receiving a report of a stolen van. The reporting party was following the stolen Alsco delivery van and kept dispatchers updated with information. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver of the van failed to yield. A short pursuit began and ended in the area of East Cruickshank Road. The suspect ran into a nearby residence and barricaded himself inside. El Centro Police requested help from the Imperial Police Department, Imperial County Sheriff's Office and California Highway patrol to set up a perimeter around the house. Officers were advised that the suspect may have access to a firearm, so the SWAT Team was activated. A search warrant was obtained and, after numerous announcements asking for the suspect to surrender, police breached the front door and located the suspect. He was taken into custody. The suspect was later booked into Imperial County Jail on a variety of felony charges.
