A man with prior felony convictions was arrested in possession of a stolen gun.

On Friday, Imperial County Sheriff's Deputies from the Winterhaven Substation stopped to check on a vehicle parked at an Interstate 8 underpass. James Torres, 35, and passenger Cassandra Acosta, 37, were in the vehicle. Deputies determined that Torres is on parole out of Arizona for weapons offenses. Further investigation discovered a loaded firearm and over 28 grams of methamphetamine. As a convicted felon, it is illegal for Torres to possess a firearm. It was also found that the pistol was stolen out of Oceanside. Torres was booked at Imperial County Jail for charges including Felon in Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Transportation of Narcotics, Possession of Methamphetamine with a Loaded Firearm and- Possession of Stolen Property. Acosta was issued a misdemeanor citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
