Omar Richard Deen was back in an Imperial County Court last week.

Deen had been convicted in the 1998 murder of his mother and Calipatria Chief of Police J. Leonard Speer. Deen had been incarcerated at the Richard Donavan Correctional Facility in San Diego until last week when he was transferred to Imperial County. His conviction on both murders and death sentence was overturned by the California Supreme Court when that court found that the trial court erred in denying a challenge for cause to a juror who was associated with Chief Speer and law enforcement in general. Deen is being held in Imperial County Jail with no bail.
