An arrest has been made in a Thursday sexual assault.

At about 10:00 p.m. Imperial Police responded to an apartment complexion the 2300 block of Myrtle Road after the report of a sexual assault. According to investigators, the victim was emptying an ice chest when she was approached by a young male. The suspect pulled down his shorts and exposed himself. He the pushed the victim against a wall and covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming. The victim was able to break free and called 911. Officers conducted an extensive search of the area and with assistance from nearby residents, obtained surveillance video that captured the assault. On Friday, investigators were able to identify the suspect, a 16-year-old male, who was later taken into custody.He was booked into Imperial County Juvenile Hall for attempted rape, sexual battery, false imprisonment, and indecent exposure. The victim did not sustain and physical injuries in the assault.
