The Brawley City Council met earlier this week.

Among the items the council acted upon was a resolution ratifying the Proclamation of the Existence of a Local Emergency in response to the recent swarm of earthquakes in the Valley's Northend. The council also discussed a potential temporary moratorium on large-scale data centers and directed staff to prepare draft ordinance language establishing a moratorium. City staff was also directed to analyze, and as appropriate provide policy recommendations related to defining data centers and related uses as a separate land use classification.

Council received an update on the Lion's Center Pool Repair Project. Major construction work has been substantially completed, and work is continuing on final closeout items and system adjustments. Barring unforeseen delays, the pool should reopen by June 20, 2026.
