A coordinated multi-agency operation was conducted Monday evening.
El Centro Police, Calexico Police, Imperial County Sheriff's Office, Border Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigations worked together focused on stolen vehicles from the Los Angeles area that were being taken into Mexico through the Calexico Port of Entry. Imperial County Sheriff's deputies located a scout vehicle being used in the thefts. The driver was detained. Shortly after this, El Centro Police officers attempted to stop a stolen Chevrolet Silverado. The driver refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. ECPD deployed spike strips and that slowed the vehicle, but it continued to flee into the City of Calexico. Calexico officers ultimately ended the chase when the pickup crashed into a barrier at the downtown Calexico Port of Entry. Both the driver of the stolen truck and the scout vehicle were arrested.
