Anthony Joseph Gonzales has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for the murder of Joseph Matus.

At trial, Gonzales admitted to shooting Matus on April 6, 2018 in Westmorland.  Gonzales, 30, claimed that he acted in self-defense but a jury convicted him of first-degree murder. Following his conviction, Gonzales asked for a new trial, claiming his trial attorney did not properly investigate the case. That motion ws denied.
