His return was not welcomed by everyone. A small group gathered at the El Centro Border Patrol station protesting Bovino's return. Two labor unions representing San Diego and Imperial Counties have released a statement. It condemns the return of Bovino to his El Centro position. The statement labeled him Persona Non Grata. The statement said if Bovino was unsafe in Minnesota, he is not safe in California, either. Bovino has not responded to the actions against him.
