Imperial County will receive part of $52.6 million in Community Development Block Grants.

Imperial County had submitted two applications for facility improvement and planing projects in support of local colonias. Colonias are described as rural communities within the U.S. - Mexico border region lacking  adequate water, sewer, or decent housing. Both applications were fully funded. One grant will fund the installation of generators and improving HVAC systems at several community buildings in the county. The improvements will allow the facilities to operate during extreme weather conditions and power outages. The second grant will update the county's Colonias Master Plan to identify needed infrastructure and public facilities improvements with in the county's nine colonias communities.
