Is a large scale Data Center Complex coming to the Imperial Valley.

On Wednesday, the City of Imperial took to social media to let citizens know that they had recently become aware of a 950,000 square foot data center along with an emergency backup generator and Energy Storage System that has been proposed for a 74 acre site in the area of Aten Boulevard and Clark Road. The City pointed out that the property is in an unincorporated area of Imperial County, outside city limits.

That same day, the Imperial Irrigation District announced that a new webpage titled " Data Center Facts for IID Customers " is now available. The site includes an associated fact sheet and related news. According to IID General Manager Jamie Asbury, " IID welcomes and fully supports economic development opportunities, and we are open to creative solutions. Data centers use significant amounts of electricity and cooling water. We are not here to get in the way, but we must ensure that any proposal aligns with our reliability standards, cost-recovery requirements, and the long-term interests of the people we serve".

IID customers are encouraged to visit the website and review the information available. In the near future, IID will host a public workshop, providing residents with the opportunity to learn more, ask questions, and engage with district staff.
