Local law enforcement agencies are warning that phone scams spike during the holiday season.
The Imperial County Sheriff's Office suggests that if you receive a phone call and the caller is requesting you verify personal or account information, hang up. Don't answer any questions. Don't press any buttons. This is more than likely a scam. If you think the call might be legitimate, you can verify by hanging up and calling back by using the organizations phone number available on their website. Remember, HANG UP, it's a scam. You can report scams to the Federal Trade Commission.
