El Centro Police arrested a suspect believed involved in identity theft crimes.

Early last week, ECPD officers investigated a vehicle burglary. The victim's wallet and personal belongings were stolen. During the investigation it was learned that the victim's credit card was used at a local convenience store. Following-up at the store, officers were able to identify the suspect and later found out that the suspect was trying to sell the victim's wallet on Facebook Marketplace. Officers set up a "sting" to recover the stolen property. As the suspect arrived to complete the sale he was taken into custody. A search of the suspects vehicle revealed multiple identification cards and personal documents belong to other victims. Approximately 34 grams of methamphetamine was also found. A search warrant at the suspects residence uncovered additional stolen property including personal checks identifying more than 10 other victims. Narcotic paraphernalia was also recovered. El Centro Police investigators said that if you have been a victim of identity theft, unauthorized charges on your credit card, or check fraud, contact ECPD Investigations.
