A Winterhaven man was sentenced to 7 years in state prison for assault.

In July,  Gabriel Mark Tellez, 27, was found guilty of Assault by Means Likely to Cause Great Bodily Harm. Tellez assaulted a family member who he suspected of calling the police on him. Superior Court Judge Christopher Plourd presided over the sentencing last week. In a separate incident, Tellez entered a plea and accepted a conviction for Attempted Criminal Threats and had already been sentenced for that crime. With the second conviction, Tellez now has a second strike on his criminal record.
