(39-year-old Rodrigo Flores Gomez had been convicted of murdering his wife)...The Brawley resident was serving a life in prison sentence.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says Gomez was recently attacked in prison by two other inmates. The attack occurred shortly after noon on Sunday at Pelican Bay State Prison near Crescent City.  Gomez was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to the injuries inflicted. The attackers were placed in restricted housing pending an investigation into the incident. A crude weapon was recovered at the scene. Gómez had been found guilty in the 2024 strangulation murder of his 36-year-old wife Sandy Fabela in Brawley.
