Thunderstorms accompanied by wind and heavy rain swept through the Imperial Valley Thursday.

Downed trees and power lines , roadway flooding and multiple traffic accident kept first responders busy for several hours. State Route 78 from Ogilby Road to Blythe was closed as he washes flooded the roadway. State Route 111 northbound in the area of Heber Road was closed because of downed power lines. Several tractor trailer rigs are blown over and multiple traffic accidents occurred. Trees were toppled with power lines being knocked down and several instances of houses being damaged. According to the National Weather Service, nearly a half-inch of rain was recorded. Sustained winds of 50 miles an hour with a peak of 63 mph were reported.
