(CHP continues to investigate fatal injury collision)....The collision happened last Saturday at just before 8 in the morning.
It was a two-vehicle collision on Highway 86, south of Hoskins Road. A 58-year-old male was driving a 2009 Dodge Caliber south on the Highway. A 31-year-old woman was driving a 2020 Jeep Gladiator, also southbound on the Highway, behind the Dodge. For unknown reasons, the Jeep collided with the rear of the Dodge. Both drivers lost control of their vehicles. The Jeep rolled an unknown number of times before coming to rest in the #2 northbound lane of the Highway. The driver of the Dodge suffered minor injuries. A passenger in the vehicle was not injured. The driver of the Jeep suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. All occupants were restrained in their vehicles. The air bags did not deploy in the Dodge, but they did in the Jeep. The cause of the collision is still being investigated by the Highway Patrol. The death is being investigated by the County Coroner's Office. No names have been released.
