(Mexico's Dia De La Independencia)....Celebrating Mexico's Independence.

In Imperial County, the event was celebrated over the weekend. There were at least two events. On Saturday a Mexican Independence Day celebration was held at the IV Mall. Sunday evening The City of Calexico celebrated El Grito at Crummet Park. In Mexico the actual celebration begins at Mid-Night tonight withe El Grito De Independencia. Celebrations are held throughout the country. In Mexicali it will be held at the Government building in the Centro Civico. On September 16th 1810 Father Miguel Hidalgo held his Grito de Dolores, a call to arms against colonial rule. The battle ended on August 24, 1821 when the treaty of Cordova was signed formally recognizing Mexico's Independence. The final declaration of independence was on September 28, 1821. In Mexico the celebration is at the beginning of the battle for independence and not the end.
