There will be a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint Friday night.
The El Centro Police Department will conduct the checkpoint from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at Imperial and Holt Avenues in El Centro. El Centro Police remind drivers that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medical and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license. According to police, impaired drivers put others on the road at risk and prevention measures such as DUI checkpoints reduce the number of impaired drivers and make our streets safer.
