A toddler died after being left in a vehicle.
At about 5:30 p.m. Monday, El Centro Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the report of an unresponsive toddler near the 700 block of Woodward Avenue. On arrival, officers immediately began life-saving measures, and the child was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center where the toddled passed away. During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the child had been left unattended inside a vehicle parked in front of their residence for an extended period of time. The child's father, 37-year-old Jose Hernandez, was arrested and faces various charges related to the child's death. The El Centro Police Departments Investigations Bureau is continuing to investigate the incident.
Temperatures in El Centro on Monday afternoon reached a high of 107 degrees.
