(El Centro is hosting their Mayor For A Day Essay Contest)....The contest is currently underway.

The contest is an opportunity for local students to imagine themselves in a leadership role and share their ideas to improve the community. The Mayor for a Day program is designed to engage young people in civic education and encourage the next generation of community leaders. The contest is open to City of El Centro students in grades 7 through 12. Participants must submit an original essay answering the question; If you were Mayor of El Centro for a day, what action would you take? Students are encouraged to be specific and thoughtful in describing what they would do to make El Centro a better place and how they would accomplish it. Essays must be a minimum of 500 words and submitted in 8.5 inch x 11 inch page format. Only one essay per student will be accepted. Essays can be submitted today through September 19. Winners will be announced October 8. The Mayor of the Day Council meeting will be October 21. More details are available at the City of El Centro website or at any of the Cities social media accounts.
