Another Imperial Valley Strike Team has been deployed.
The team, made up of personnel from several Imperial Valley fire departments, left early Tuesday for the Gold Fire in San Bernardino County. The City of El Centro responded with a Type 6 Office of Emergency Services engine and three personnel, one Captain, one Fire Engineer and one Firefighter. Personnel and equipment from Imperial County, Calipatria, Holtville, Viejas and the town of Independence, in Inyo County, make up the Team. El Centro Battalion Chief Andrew Miller is the Strike Team leader. The Gold Fire started Monday morning North of Big Bear Lake. As of Tuesday noon, the fire has burned approximately 1,000 acres and is considered 5 percent contained. Over 500 personnel have been assigned to the blaze that is burning in steep terrain with limited access. Evacuation orders have been issued for a campground and a climbing area. According to CalFire, crews will remain focused on containment line construction and structure protection.
