It wasn't your typical Biker Gang that got busted Tuesday.

According to El Centro Police, officers conducted an e-bike enforcement operation in the area of 4th and Wake Tuesday evening. The operation was in response to numerous complaints and recent traffic collisions involving the electric bicycles. Officers watched a group of riders from the 1200 block of Valleywiew to a fast-food restaurant at 4th and Wake. The group was observed doing wheelies, running red lights and showing a disregard for other vehicles on the road. Officers contacted the group and determined they were all juveniles. All were cited for multiple Vehicle Code violations, and their e-bikes were towed and will be impounded for 30 days. According to ECPD, officers focused on education and enforcement with the goal of preventing serious injuries to both riders and the community. According to residents and drivers in the area, this behavior has been a regular occurrence in that area for several weeks.
