The Calexico City Council will meet Wednesday evening. The agenda includes the discussion of several important positions. They will consider appointing a permanent City Manager. The City has been operating with Interim City Managers since the dismissal of Esperanza Colio-Warren. The current interim city manager is Police Chief Armando Orozco. It is being reported that the City Council has decided to name Benjamin A. Martinez as the new Fulltime City Manager. Martinez is the former City Manager of National City in San Diego County. He was picked as the top candidate from a list of applications. The Council is reportedly ready to offer Martinez a 3-year contract, with an optional 2-year extension, at $220,000 per year and additional benefits. Also Wednesday the Council will discuss a three-year contract for Fire Chief Juan Contreras at just over $10,000 per month. The Council will also discuss hiring Jesus Villegas as the Calexico Public Works Director, offering a 3-year contract at a monthly salary of $12,525.27.
