Twenty local schools will receive grants from the Imperial Irrigation District.

The Grants for Energy Modernization in Schools (GEMS) Program are part of the IID's commitment to support energy efficiency in education. A total of $1.1 from the state-mandated Public Benefits Charge will be distributed. Eight schools will receive $35,000 for single-site projects, and 12 school districts, with multiple qualified sites, will each receive $70,000. The monies will go towards updating HVAC units that will operate more efficiently and cool classrooms better. The funds will be distributed on the successful completion of the projects.
