Six people have been arrested in connection with the torture and murder of Jacob Sims.

The burned remains of 23-year-old Sims were found on November 15, 2024, at a residence on Rodenbaugh Road in Winterhaven. Investigators determined that Sims, from Yuma, had been tortured and murdered and then burned. The Imperial County Sheriff's Office Investigations Unit identified six individuals in connection with the case. Gabriel Mills, Jr., Daniel Gavino Martinez, Gabriel Mills, Sr, and Sadie Hiatt have been arrested and charged with a variety of felonies including Murder, Aggravated Kidnapping to Commit Another crime, Torture, Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Crime. Carla Gilmore and Lavonne Hill were arrested and charged with Accessory After the Fact in the crime.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the investigation involved the execution of multiple search warrants, forensic examinations, digital evidence analysis, and interviews with key witnesses and suspects and was assisted by the Anaheim Police Department and Imperial Valley Law Enforcement Coordination Center. ICSO says the investigation remains active and more charges or arrests may happen.
