(The California Child Protection Act is approved by the Assembly)...It was finally approved with bipartisan support.

The Legislation would make it a felony for adults to solicit sex from 16 and 17 year- olds. The bill received needed Republican support. That support came after they were able to restore critical felony penalties that had ben removed in committee. Legislators received pressure from the public, survivors and law enforcement. They say the bill now reflects its original intent to hold predators accountable and protect vulnerable youth. AB 379 now moves to the Senate Public Safety Committee.
